Feist’s Metals was the most honest, mature album I’ve heard in a long time. I’ve never really listened to Feist before, and when this album ends and the next album comes on by her I stop it, because I’m afraid it won’t be as good as Metals. Taking a page out of the 2011 Indie Rocker Handbook, Feist utilizes horns on this album prominently - more so, perhaps, than other 2011 indie rock albums such as Bon Iver, The King of Limbs or Kiss Each Other Clean. The saxophones really drive songs like “The Bad In Each Other” or accent the guitar beautifully in “How Come You Never Go There”. Her voice seems to fit inside these songs like a glove. This album sounds like it was meant to be made, at some point, I’m just glad it came out so perfectly. Definitely worth a listen - or 20.
Highlights: How Come You Never Go There, A Commotion, Anti-Pioneer.
